* ‘Freak’ me out

20 06 2008

One of my favorite blogs is Freakonomics by Stephen J. Dubner and Steven D. Levitt on The New York Times‘ Web site.

So imagine my glee when I found several baseball-related items, treated with the hosts’ usual thought-provoking and humorous style:

Since the beginning of 2008, the columns include:

  • Baseball Writers Are A Rare Breed: They Don’t Want To Dictate Everyone Else’s Salaries
  • How We Would Fight Steroids If We Really Meant It
  • With the Stock Market Down, Perhaps Diamonds Are a Good Place to Invest
  • Breaking Down the Clemens Report: A Guest Post
  • More On Roger Clemens
  • How Did A-Rod Get So Good?
  • Bring Your Questions for Sabermetrician Bill James
  • Bill James Answers All Your Baseball Questions
  • A May Birthday: So That Explains Why I Was Such a Lousy Baseball Player
  • A Sports-Star Stimulus Package?
  • Ideas for Making Baseball More Interesting
  • Would a Salary Cap Improve Baseball?
  • Because, Not In Spite Of
  • Baseball’s Jet Lag Drag

Ron Kaplan by Arnold Roth

Ron by Roth

In my "day job," I'm the features and sports editor for a weekly New Jersey newspaper. I'm also the editor of the Bibliography Committee Newsletter for the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

I did a piece on the award-winning cartoonist and he was nice enough to "immortalize" me.
